Bob - age 35

Sometimes I feel like I have lots of pictures of the babies and very few of the other kids and even fewer of Bob. I think part of that is that things are usually much busier when they are home and I forget to get out the camera. My Instagram feed is especially bad in this regard. I am going to try to follow my friend Denise's lead and create a good post about each member of the family over the next few weeks. Bob gets to be first.

Work: Bob recently started his 4th year of working for Lockheed Martin. He is really comfortable in his current role. He works with good people and implemented an improvement process this year that he is proud of. He recently applied for a promotion at Lockheed that he was really excited about. The pay, co-workers and job would have been really good. He didn't get the job. He and his current co-workers were shocked when the job went to someone with less experience who had worked with the hiring manager before.

Bob gets frustrated with the inefficiencies of working for a big government contractor. He gets frustrated by a lot of their policies and the slow rate at which the company moves. He gets paid decently but probably under market value with not a lot of hope for improvement. Even though he is comfortable, gets every other Friday off, and can provide for our needs, he is looking for something different. It has to be a good fit (family, $, commute) so it may take some time to find. We are willing to be patient.

Hobbies: Bob is spending some time these days visiting and calling local businesses. I see this new venture as his hobby even though it has the potential of bringing in extra money. He doesn't want me telling a lot of people about it until he gets it off the ground a little more. He is always talking about having his own business and this is a great opportunity with no upfront financial investment. It is fun for him to be learning something new.

Dad: Bob is a great father. He is reading Harry Potter to the boys every night. He puts Sydney and Sage to bed regularly. He reads scriptures with the kids, works with them on cleaning the kitchen, and watches movies with them. On Wednesday and Thursday nights he has all kid responsibility from 5-9 while I am at school. When I get home the kitchen is very clean and the kids are quietly in bed. He does a great job.

He likes to teach the kids to do things before I think they are ready. Last week he took Allie to a parking lot and started teaching her to drive. She is 10!

Husband: Bob is really excited about Allie getting older. It means that we can go out more often without the hassle of arranging a babysitter. We have started to leave the kids alone on Friday nights after we put Sage down around 7. He is ready for a night out after his Wed/Thurs single parent duty and we enjoy having a quiet dinner together. We also like to watch Survivor together on Wednesday nights (or whenever we can get to it). He is very supportive of my scholarly endeavors and very proud when I do well.

Church: He likes having church at 8:30 even though he has a hard time waking up for it. Bob's current calling is as the Sunday school teacher for the 14-15 year olds. He is getting them to read their scriptures with candy rewards. They seem to like him and he likes teaching them. We always have candy in the freezer that he is saving for his class. He prepares his lessons on his iPhone sometimes while watching football.

Football: Bob stays up way too late on Saturday nights watching college football. He follows BYU religiously and also likes to know what Nebraska and Notre Dame and others are doing. He usually has 2 or 3 games each week that he is interested in watching.

Working Out: Bob was doing Insanity videos for several weeks this summer. He loved it and lost 10-15 pounds by working out and changing the way he eats. A friend invited him to play basketball at the church one evening and he went. He was excited to see if it was easier to play ball after working out so hard to Insanity. He sprained his ankle pretty badly that night and hasn't worked out at all for 6 weeks or so since. Somehow he has kept the weight off even without working out.

Hair: A few months ago Bob decided to start cutting his own hair. He cuts it really short every couple of weeks. I didn't like it much at all at first but I am getting used to it. He loves it and gets comments occasionally about being a Marine.
